Jurisdiction

The area applied for covers a section of the Vaal River, down-stream from the Vaaldam wall. There is a point where the most south-eastern beacon of the Vanderbyl Park municipal jurisdiction intersects with the river’s centre line, which also happens to form the natural border between Gauteng and the Free State. From this point traveling west, the river passes under the N1.

The jurisdiction applied for is between these two points. Generally it will include the entire water surface area of that section of river.

If the appointment of VAAL MEANDER FIRE BRIGADE as a designated service is confirmed by COGTA in terms of the Fire Brigade Services Act (99 of 1987), then the newly founded brigade will be able to appoint reservists (or volunteers) in terms of (article 6A) of the act.

The appointed Fire Chief will have the delegated powers any municipal fire chief has in terms of the act and the regulations thereto.

The service will have Volunteer foundation. It is quite possible for civilians to be appointed to the service in any capacity they are fit for, and to furthermore be promoted in the service as and when they qualify for promotion.
