The newly founded NPO known as the Vaal Meander Fire Brigade has made application to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to be appointed as a designated fire brigade in terms of the Fire Brigade Services Act (99 of 1987).
GEOGRAPHIC ORIENTATION
The geographical area for which the application is lodged is bordered by two municipal jurisdictions, namely Vanderbylpark in Gauteng and Sasolburg in the Free State Province. On the East/west axis the two reference points are the N1 to the west and the south-eastern most remote corner of the Vanderbylpark jurisdiction, just short of Ascot on Vaal Road.
We envisage establishing a Volunteer Fire Brigade which will be based on maritime and marine principles. Fires in structures alongside the river as well as those in boats and boat houses on the river will be fought by this unit.
The entire service will be volunteer-based.
It is expected the service will consist of three hundred (+) members by end 2017.
